Finally 21!
I finally turned 21 on the 21st. Yay me! Since I didn’t get to eat french macaroons during my trip to Shanghai, my awesome boyfriend had his family get some for me from Shanghai. Unfortunately, they were completely crushed along the way. But I still ate them anyway! Isn’t it such a sweet gesture? =]

My friends managed to throw me a legit surprise party that I was NOT EXPECTING AT ALL. Good one guys! You really got me this time. We had dinner at my favorite Korean restaurant, Maru.

Awesome seafood pancake appetizer.

Very yummy dragon eel sushi roll one of my friends ordered.

Peach flan birthday cake from Mendokers. yumm!

Complimentary green tea mochi ice cream from the owners of Maru. They’re always so sweet!

When I got my birthday ballons, everyone started laughing at me. WHY?!

I got a “You’re a great GRANDPA” ballon….so messed up. Haha.

My first official drink! Lychee Nut Martini from Clydz. Tasty, but I don’t think I can hold my liquor too well…

Me and my better half. =]

More birthday cake when I got home. =]
Thanks for making my birthday so special guys. =D
Vacationing in Taiwan Food Frenzy Epi 32. Watermelon Galore!
The best thing you could eat on a hot sunny day would probably have to be juicy watermelon. Watermelon is a thirst quencher and it has a good dosage of vitamin C and vitamin A. It’s not only juicy and sweet, but it’s low on calories for those looking for a healthy treat. You can really get watermelon all year round nowadays, but I would have to say that summer is still the prime time for watermelon. You can’t walk into any morning market in Taiwan and not spot a fruit stand with massive watermelons split open in red juicy goodness. The watermelons in Taiwan are double of those in the States at half the price! Can we say food heaven?
Vacationing in Taiwan Food Frenzy Epi 31. Hot Oil Dumplings.
Another one of our appetizers from Din Tai Fung. Dumplings swimming in hot chili oil. It was tasty, but not the best hot oil dumplings I’ve ever had. The best hot oil dumplings I’ve ever had comes from a restaurant called Szechuan Ace in New Jersey.
Din Tai Fung. Taipei, Taiwan.
Vacationing in Taiwan Food Frenzy Epi 30. Pickled Cucumber. One of our appetizers from Din Tai Fung in Taipei; pickled cucumber with hot oil. It’s a good mix of salty, sweet, spicy, and crunchy. I’ve noticed that not matter what Din Tai Fung you go to, the flavor and texture of this dish is about the same (as expected), but the shape in which they cut the cucumbers is always different! Din Tai Fung. Taipei, Taiwan.
Vacationing in Taiwan Food Frenzy Epi 29. Late Night Snacking.
Chicken that’s been tossed in a secret blend of spices and deep fried with basil leaves along with deep fried string beans. Beside from the fact that it’s beyond delicious, I love the fact that you can be hungry at 11:00 at night, walk less than a quarter mile outside your house, and run into a good number of street vendors serving up late night dishes until 1 or 2 in the morning. In Taiwan, you have those early morning breakfast shops that open as early as 5:00 am in the morning, and then you have those late night shops and vendors that open at 8:00pm. So you can never really go hungry, no matter what location you’re in.

![Vacationing in Taiwan Food Frenzy Epi 33. The Best Sweet Potato Fries Ever.
Sweet potato wedges fried in oil, tossed in a special sweet and sour spice, and thrown into a paper bag with a large toothpick as your fork. It can’t get any better than this. =]](http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lnol5jHUw21qadcb6o1_500.jpg)
